Design Input Study

The City of Thorold has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study to determine the preferred connection between the existing Rail Trail and the Welland Canal Trail in the City of Thorold.  This survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. Public and stakeholders' opinions, along with technical and policy considerations, will be used to inform the MCEA Study.

Trail Connection Route Considerations

The trail connection route between the Rail Trail at Marlatts Road to the Welland Canal Trail will consider the following factors:

  • Connectivity and Recreation
  • Safety and Mobility
  • Natural Environment
  • Cultural Heritage & Archaeology
  • Socio-Economic Environment
  • Cost and Complexity of Construction

Trail Connection Options (Alternative Solutions)

Four (4) Trail Connection Options were developed based on the recommendations in the City’s Transportation Master Plan. The purpose of the MCEA is not to screen out the potential route options identified in the TMP, rather this MCEA study will provide a recommendation in the priority of which route should be construction first.
